West Edmeston and Solsville Adventure

Carol and I met up in New Berlin at nine a.m. today and headed to the harness shop so that she could pick up her saddle at the harness and tack shop in West Edmeston.   Levi had done some repair work on it for her.  Carol talked with him about possibly purchasing a leather strap, for some purpose, but I could not tell you why.  Anyways, I kind of snuck  this picture when Levi's back was somewhat turned to me.

Then we went to the new Amish bulk food store that we had heard about. IT is not very large, but they offer a lot of items.  I purchased a pair of gloves and several food items.    Then we drove to the Amish one room school house which we had found last spring.  It appeared that school was not in session today.

Amish School House in West Edmeston, NY by JuneNY.There are two outhouses in the yard behind the school, probably one for boys and the other for girls.  Using one of those would not be any fun in this cold weather.

Then we drove up to Route 20 to look for the KOUNTRY KUPBOARD.  We found it and it is a larger bulk food store that also offers baked goods and some lunch items.  I bought some bread and then we headed for Solsville to check out the HOTEL SOLSVILLE as a possible place to have lunch.  Carol seemed unsure about whether or not it would be OK to eat here, but I really wanted to eat in this historic hotel and former stagecoach stop.
I ordered a steak salad with garlic toast and onion rings and Carol ordered the meatloaf melt sandwich . We shared and everything was VERY good and I think Carol was glad we ate there.

After that we headed back towards New Berlin, taking a different route, through Sherburne.  We stopped at the DOLLAR GENERAL and Carol purchased some towels.  I dropped her off at her car in New Berlin and headed home, but I stopped at the VALLEY BAKERY and CAFE in Morris and purchased a couple of small items.

Monday, January 14, 2013

I boxed up all the craft supplies from the bathroom cupboard and took them to Olivia Weaver in Richfield Springs.  I met her friend, RoseAnn, who was there today.  They were all excited about all the stuff!  I had lunch at the TALLY HO.......a reuben sandwich.  I stopped at Mary's Pantry in Schuyler Lake for a piece of coconut pie, which was delicious!

DOWNTOWN ONEONTA ADVENTURE

Alana and Anne by JuneNYConnie and I picked her mother up and took her downtown for lunch at COLLAGE FOOD EMPORIUM, a small eating place in the new mini mall at the corner of Ford Avenue and Main Street in Oneonta.  Its not really a restaurant since they do not have a regular menu.........every days offerings are different from the day before.  Anne enjoyed meeting Alana (the pastry chef at COLLAGE) and then we ordered soup.  The yellow split pea was delicious, but Anne did not seem to enjoy the soup she had.
We went into the clothing shop and the fabric shop (which has some wonderfully colorful fabric)before heading back to Fox Nursing home.  Connie purchased several food items to take with us.  We had lunch in the conference room at Fox.  Everything was very good!

Outing with Judy

I picked Judy up and we went to the Cooperstown Diner in Cooperstown, New York for lunch.  Even though we arrived a little before 11:30, the place was crowded.  While I parked the car, Judy went in and grabbed a seat at the counter.  After I arrived, a table behind us became empty so we moved.  We both had the Junior Cheeseburger and split an order of sweet potato fries.

On the way home, I stopped to drop off a book to Connie and she invited me in and we visited for close to an hour.

Sprout Brook Adventure on New Years Eve Day

Leslie and I set today aside for geocaching as our way of celebrating the last day of 2012.

We met up at ten a.m. at her house and with her at the wheel, we set off, heading towards Cherry Valley. We stopped for several geocaches, but many of them were not at all accessible because of the high piles of snow left by snowplows. We did, however find three geocaches.

We stopped at The TePee, hoping it was open, but it wasn't . The snow piles were too deep for Leslie to find "Go Meet TePee Pete". But at least she was able to see the TePee.........she had not been able to find it before when she looked.

The high point of the day (for me) was finding Sprout Brook and the store/restaurant. The store does not look old, but an elderly man, who was born in l930 remembers it from the l930's and was able to tell us the owners name at that time.

I had a reuben sandwich and potato soup and Leslie had the chicken and biscuits and we split a piece of fresh baked cherry pie. Everything was very good.

The owner was hesitant to let me take pictures inside, but she eventually relented and gave me permission.

We arrived back in Oneonta a few minutes before three p.m.

October 18th and l9th, 2012

I left early in the morning on Thursday the 18th and headed across New York State to meet up with my sister for our flight to Albuquerque on Saturday morning the 20th.  I stopped to find three geocaches along the way (all easy ones that were hidden in or near large bells, mostly Meneely's).

I noticed some really nice "fall color as I drove into Lockport, so I stopped to take pictures."

Country Club

Later on that night I went to the annual CareNet Banquet at Salvatore's.  The meal was delicious, the company was perfect, and the topic/issue very important and timely.

This morning (Friday the 19th), Peggy went off to work and I stayed at 17 and did several things.  I somewhat organized both Peggy's and my trip information, getting rid of many duplicates and unnecessary stuff.  I cleaned a few cupboards and put some of my items from home away.  I ran a few errands and met my sister Gail for lunch at Tom's D ner.  That night Peg and I went to Mikes house for pizza and wings.  We had a good time.  The countdown was on for our southwest USA trip!!!!
