DAY TRIP TO SAVANNAH: February 20, 2018 (Day Six)

Before heading to Savannah, we went to McDonalds so David could get some breakfast food, and then we headed south.  We stopped for gas, and while there, Peggy threw out an old pair of sneakers.
Along the way we passed this man who we thought might be homeless
We turned around and gave him some cash and some food.  I never could really read his sign.
This bridge took us over to Savannah.  We looked for a homeless settlement that Peg and David saw two years ago, but it appears to have been dismantled and cleaned up.
Our first stop in Savannah was at a large visitors center which appeared to be in an old, huge train station.  We thought about taking a trolley ride, but opted instead to drive around and see the sights ourselves.  It turned out that we drove directly behind a trolley
We saw many beautiful historic buildings and small parks.  Here  are a few pictures:

as well as churches and a couple of interesting looking cemeteries.

When we were done following the trolley, we found a parking spot from which we could walk to the River Street area (RiverFront).  It is a long strip of shops along the river.  You have to walk down stairs or a ramp to get to them.

                                                        Container ship
Also, we found a geocache not too far from the WW2 Monument.

After that we found Ruth Chris' Steak House
David seemed to really enjoy reading the menu and planning a future trip to a Ruth Chris in Niagara Falls, NY.

Then we found LADY AND SONS.
We had only planned to go to the gift shop because Peg and David were disappointed when they had the buffet there two years ago.  They said the buffet looked much better, so we decided to eat there.  First we walked to the car and drove closer to the restaurant.
The BUFFET at LADY AND SONS was great!  And only eighteen dollars.

Then we headed back to HHI.  We made one stop while still in Georgia....when we saw an abandoned fireworks shop.
We decided to NOT get out of the car when we saw this sign.

We arrived back at the condo around 7:30 or so.
